Unstrut-Hainich is a rural municipality in the Unstrut-Hainich district in the German state of Thuringia . It was created on January 1, 2019.

geography

The municipality located in the northern Thuringian Basin consists of the districts Altengottern , Flarchheim , Großengottern , Heroldishausen , Mülverstedt and Weberstedt , which were previously independent municipalities.

Unstrut-Hainich borders the following cities and municipalities starting in the southwest and moving clockwise: Kammerforst , Oppershausen , Mühlhausen / Thuringia , Körner , Nottertal-Heilinger Heights , Bad Langensalza , Schönstedt , Hörselberg-Hainich , Berka vor dem Hainich , Bischofroda , Lauterbach and Amt Creuzburg .

In the south-west of the municipality there is one exclave each for the city of Bad Langensalza and the municipality of Kammerforst .

history

As part of the regional reform, the communities Altengottern, Flarchheim, Großengottern, Heroldishausen, Mülverstedt and Weberstedt decided to merge into a rural community on January 1, 2019. With Schönstedt they were all member communities of the Unstrut-Hainich administrative association , which was dissolved by the merger. Schönstedt did not join the merger, as a result of which the municipality of Unstrut-Hainich acted as a fulfilling municipality for Schönstedt. On December 13, 2018, the state parliament passed the corresponding law.

The municipal council consists of 26 council members. In the local elections on May 26, 2019 , the result led to the following distribution of seats:
