Heroldishausen is a district of the rural community Unstrut-Hainich in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

geography

Heroldishausen is in its original form a street village oriented from west to east . In the center is the Kirchanger, which is now planted with old linden trees. The village is located on the western edge of the Thuringian Keuper hill country in the Muldental of the Suthbach in the middle of the intensively used arable land. The lowest point of the place is at about 195 m above sea level on the Suthbach, the highest at 225 m above sea level on the Schere, a hill northwest of the place. The straightened Suthbach touches the place in the south.

history

In 1017 a chapel was mentioned that was a gift from Emperor Heinrich II to his wife Kunigunde . The current walled church of St. Crucis was built in the middle of the 18th century using the rubble stones from the previous Romanesque building.

The King's Bridge , called Kuhbrücke , from 1810, on the local postal route Langensalza - Ufhoven - Schönstedt - Heroldishausen - Wanfried , as part of the Leipzig - Kassel postal route established in 1700 , as part of the long-distance post line Moscow - Amsterdam , reminds of the region's affiliation to the region until 1815 Kingdom of Saxony . The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Langensalza until 1815 and after its cession to Prussia from 1816 to 1944 to the district of Langensalza in the province of Saxony .

On March 4, 1949, northeast of Heroldishausen, a US supply plane for the Berlin Airlift crashed. One crew member was killed. In 1999 a memorial was erected to him. You can find it on the Kammerforster Weg, to the right of its intersection with the road from Heroldishausen to Seebach (see Großengottern ).

Since 1993 Heroldishausen has belonged to the administrative community Unstrut-Hainich , whose member communities merged to form the rural community Unstrut-Hainich on January 1, 2019, except for Schönstedt .

Economy and Infrastructure

economy

For a long time, clay was quarried northeast of the locality and baked into bricks in the attached brickworks. The industrial buildings have been preserved to this day.

traffic

The L2101 runs through Heroldishausen between Seebach and the confluence with the L2100 near Mülverstedt .

Others

As evidence of an often coarse folk humor, neck names and nicknames that characterize each village developed centuries ago . According to this, the Heroldishaus Kuckucke lived here in the village - the place was called Kuckuckshausen or Guckhausen , because there used to be few cars and people looked curiously out of the windows when they drove by.
