Schönstedt is a municipality in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

geography

Schönstedt is located on the edge of the Thuringian Basin , five kilometers northwest of the spa and rose town Bad Langensalza and about 45 kilometers northwest of the Thuringian capital Erfurt on the federal highway 247 . This separates the industrial park created in 1992 from the location.

Townscape

The village is characterized by the towers of the two churches of St. Martini, known locally as the lower church, and Beatae Mariae Virginis, the upper church. Characteristic for the place is the Anger with the clinker building built in 1899, the community tavern. Anger and community taverns are used for cultural purposes such as the Whitsun festival, the Anger festival, the fair on the first October weekend of the year and also for the Christmas market at the beginning of December. As part of the urban development subsidy, the Anger and the community tavern were lovingly renovated between 1999 and 2002 and thus visually forms the center of Schönstedt. Numerous large farmsteads in the village testify to a strong agricultural structure in recent years. Until 1945 there was a manor in Schönstedt, which fell victim to the land reform taking place at the time. Some smaller buildings that were converted into apartments or the old granary have been preserved. In 1998, the municipality developed a small residential area with approx. 30 building sites called “Neuschönstedt”, where today almost all building sites are occupied.

Alterstedt district

The Schönstedt district of Alterstedt has formed a unified municipality with Schönstedt since 1994, has around 209 inhabitants and is located east of the Hainich National Park . One attraction is the three kilometers away Baumkronenpfad at the Thiemsburg .

history

The place is first mentioned in a document in 852 and celebrated its 1150th anniversary in 2002 with a week of festivities.

The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Langensalza until 1815 and after its cession to Prussia from 1816 to 1944 to the district of Langensalza in the province of Saxony .

Since 1997 the community has belonged to the Unstrut-Hainich administrative community . This dissolved on January 1, 2019, the newly formed rural community Unstrut-Hainich has been a fulfilling community for Schönstedt ever since.
