The community for Schönstedt district Alterstedt belonging Thiemsburg was an estate and a former forester's house in Langensalzaer city forest in Hainich National Park .
history
At the Thiemsburg square are the last remains of a fortification called Schanzgraben , which enclose the pond there in the west and south. The castle possibly served as a lock on an old trade route leading through Hainich - still known as the old Zimmer'sche Weg .
It was first mentioned in 1143 when the abbot of the neighboring Homburg monastery , Thiemmo, acquired the forest near Diemarsburg, which belonged to Heinrich, the son of Erchenbert von Wida (or Bidaa). At that time there were still some clearing settlements nearby.
Even before the Thirty Years' War , the Thiemsburg was expanded into a representative courtyard. The tenants used the forest-free areas for sheep breeding. Numerous historical boundary stones in the area around Thiemsburg from 1741 show the coat of arms of the city of Bad Langensalza and that of Mr. Goldacker zu Weberstedt . A stone cross photographed in 1933 has now been lost.
The forester's house Thiemsburg was a 2½-storey half-timbered building. As far as is known, it was built in the mid-19th century. Further additions were made later, such as a covered terrace and several barracks. In 1915 a prison camp was set up on the grounds of the Thiemsburg forester's house. However, it is not known whether prisoners were ever held there.
A forest workers house was built at the forester's house in the 1960s. The forester's house was temporarily used as a restaurant in the GDR. Behind the forester's house, a sawmill with wood processing production of the VEB military forestry operation stem production was built , parts of these systems are still preserved to this day (2012).
Today there is one of the numerous circular hiking trails in the Hainich National Park. The Hainich Treetop Path , which was opened on August 26, 2005, is 200 meters from Thiemsburg .
The "old" forester's house Thiemsburg was demolished on January 4, 2006 and replaced in 2007 by a new building used for catering purposes.
