history

Church 2011

The community was first mentioned on March 20, 1143. Initially belonging to the Peterskloster in Erfurt , the village was sold in 1272 to the administrator of the Teutonic Order , who was based in Mühlhausen . The late Gothic church of St. Boniface from the 15th century was rebuilt in 1701 in the Baroque style. Of the two bells in the tower, the smaller one was cast in 1812 and is still in use today, while the larger bell dates from the 17th century. Several severe storms and fires in the 18th and 19th centuries caused great damage in Blankenburg.

The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Langensalza until 1815 and after its cession to Prussia from 1816 to 1944 to the district of Langensalza in the province of Saxony . The village hall was built in 1914 and has been connected to the power grid since 1924. After the advance guard of the advancing US Army recognized German defensive positions on the "Long Field" at the beginning of April 1945 and encountered resistance, American tanks and assault guns shelled the place.

In 1953, the citizens built a sewer themselves. In 1956 the LPG "Einigkeit" was founded, in 1958 the LPG "Aufbau" followed, which became "Einigkeit" on January 1, 1965. At the beginning of the 1970s, the streets were paved.

A missile base of the NVA was set up between Blankenburg and Freienbessingen . This "forest settlement" was a large asylum seeker home from 1992 to 2007, only to be demolished.

In 1991 the community came to the Bad Tennstedt administrative community.
