history
The community was first mentioned in a document in 786 . From 1261, the extensive Urleben settlement belonged to the free float of Beuren Abbey in Eichsfeld , a farmyard of this monastery formed the administrative center of the place. Urleben was divided into the now independent places Großurleben and Kleinurleben at the latest in the 14th century. During the Peasants' War , the original farmers went to the Weberstedter Haufen and were involved in the storming of the Gräfentonna Castle . The lords of Berlepsch appeared as the landlords for both places; they were the owners of the Haus Urleben manor from 1571 to 1848 . Up until 1815, large and small living belonged to the administrative district of Langensalza and, after its cession to Prussia, from 1816 to 1944 to the district of Langensalza in the province of Saxony .
In 1913 the private Langensalzaer Kleinbahn was built from house summer residents to Langensalza via Großurleben. This was completely dismantled in 1967 from Haussummer to Kirchheilingen and in 1969.
On May 20, 1974, the previously independent community Großurleben and Kleinurleben were merged to form the new community Urleben.
