Amt Creuzburg is a town in the Wartburg district in Thuringia , which was created on December 31, 2019 through the merger of the town of Creuzburg and the communities of Ebenshausen and Mihla . geography

Geographical location

The urban area lies in western Thuringia between the landscape areas of the Ringgau in the west and the Hainich in the east. The foothills of the Thuringian Forest begin to the south and the Eichsfeld connects to the north . The city area is traversed by the Werra , which it crosses from south to north. The striking breakthrough valley of the Werra between Creuzburg and Buchenau with the adjoining nature reserves Klosterholz and Nordmannssteine as well as Ebenauer Köpfe and Wisch characterize the landscape.

Neighboring communities

Starting in the northwest, the city borders on the following cities and communities: Treffurt , Frankenroda , Nazza , Kammerforst , Bad Langensalza , Unstrut-Hainich , Lauterbach , Eisenach , Krauthausen and Herleshausen .

City structure

Amt Creuzburg consists of the five districts Buchenau , Creuzburg , Ebenshausen , Mihla and Scherbda . The former Wilhelmsglücksbrunn monastery and the small settlements of Ebenau , Freitagszella and Hahnroda are also part of the urban area .

history

The decision to merge the city of Creuzburg with the communities of Ebenshausen and Mihla was taken in October 2018. It was agreed on the name of Amt Creuzburg , based on the historical Amt of Creuzburg in the Duchy of Saxony-Eisenach , whereby the term Amt has no meaning under local law . The Thuringian law on the voluntary reorganization of municipalities belonging to the district in 2019 was passed by the Thuringian state parliament on September 12, 2019 and came into force on December 31, 2019.

politics

City council

Until a municipal council was elected, a transitional council consisting of all councils of the dissolved parishes was formed. In the city council election on June 28, 2020, the following distribution of seats resulted:

  • Independent community of voters / citizens for Ebenshausen / free voters: 8 seats
  • CDU : 7 seats
  • SPD : 4 seats
  • FDP 1 seat

(As of: City Council election on June 28, 2020)

mayor

Until the election of a mayor, the municipality was headed by a representative of the district office in accordance with the Thuringian municipal code. In its first meeting, the city council decided that the future mayor would initially do voluntary work. In the mayoral election on June 28, 2020, the former mayor of Creuzburg, Ronny Schwanz (CDU), and the former mayor of Mihla, Rainer Lämmerhirt (UWG), reached the runoff election. Lämmerhirt decided this for himself; he received 56.5% of the vote.

traffic

Amt Creuzburg is located north of Eisenach on federal highway 7 ( Kassel –Eisenach) a few kilometers north of junction 39 Eisenach-West of the A4 . Bundesstraße 250 branches off in the west of the municipality and leads north to Treffurt and Wanfried . Other state and district roads complement the road network, whereby state road 1016 is particularly important, which leads through Mihla and connects Eisenach with Mühlhausen / Thuringia .

The next connection to the rail traffic is at Eisenach train station or in Eisenach- Hörschel on the Halle-Bebra railway line . The disused Schwebda – Wartha railway line , which once touched Creuzburg, Buchenau, Mihla and Ebenshausen and connected the towns with Eisenach in the south and Treffurt, Mühlhausen and Eschwege in the north , runs through the municipality . The station buildings in Mihla and Creuzburg have been preserved as evidence of this railway line.

Mostly laid out on the former railway line, the Werra Valley Cycle Path connects the districts of Creuzburg, Buchenau, Mihla and Ebenshausen in the Werra Valley.
