Rainer Lämmerhirt

Rainer Lämmerhirt (* 1956 ) is a German teacher , author on Thuringian history and local politician.

Rainer Lämmerhirt studied history and German as a teacher at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena . From 1991 until his retirement he worked as a specialist history teacher at the Elisabeth Gymnasium in Eisenach . Lämmerhirt became known through regional historical research and publications in West Thuringia, especially concerning the Hainich area . His main research interests include Mihla's regional history and the fighting in April 1945 between the US armed forces and the German armed forces in the Hessian-Thuringian border region in the final phase of the Second World War .

In 1997 Lämmerhirt was elected honorary mayor of his home municipality Mihla in the Wartburg district in Thuringia . When this opened up in the city of Amt Creuzburg on December 31, 2019 , he became mayor of Mihla. In the first mayoral election of the city of Amt Creuzburg on June 28, 2020, Lämmerhirt ran for the Independent Community of Voters and initially reached the runoff election. Lämmerhirt won this on July 12, 2020; he received 56.5% of the vote.

Lämmerhirt is the chairman of the Mihlaer Heimat- und Verkehrsverein and has been an honorary local chronicle since 1986 . On January 4th, 2012 Lämmerhirt was made an honorary citizen of the Mihla community.
