The St. John's Cathedral ( St. John's Cathedral ) in Brisbane , Australia , was completed in 2008 after 108 years of construction. After the Liverpool Cathedral, completed in 1978, and the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC in 1990, it is the last neo-Gothic cathedral in the world to be built. The likewise neo-Gothic Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York is still under construction.

The construction contract for the Anglican Episcopal Church of the Australian ecclesiastical province of Queensland , consecrated to John the Evangelist , was awarded in 1885 or 1886. The British architect John Loughborough Pearson designed a church that was modeled on the Cathedral of Truro in Cornwall he had built. The model for both was the early Gothic cathedral in Lincoln . Due to various delays, the foundation stone was laid in 1901 and construction of the cathedral in Brisbane actually started in 1903. The original construction plans have since been slightly modified by Frank Loughborough Pearson, the son of the planner.

Construction work on the church, which is financed by donations, has so far taken place in three main periods: from 1906 to 1910, then from 1965 to 1969 and finally from 1989 to 2008. The last plan was to complete the cathedral construction in 2007, finally the construction was finished in 2008 and on 29 Consecrated October 2009.

St. John's Cathedral is the seat of a men's and boy's choir known in Australia with a religious but also secular repertoire. The four-manual organ is often used for organ concerts.
