The St John's Episcopal Church is a church building in the Episcopal Scottish Episcopal Church in the Scottish village of New Pitsligo in the Council area Aberdeenshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

When designing the planned town of New Pitsligo, the landlord William Forbes, 6th Baronet, presumably reserved the piece of land located in the center of the main road for the construction of an Episcopal church. In 1835 a small church building was erected there. Today's St John's Episcopal Church is in the same location.

The English architect George Edmund Street is responsible for the design . Street was entrusted with the revision of the library of the nearby Dunecht House in 1867 . Street oversaw the work on the church from 1870 until it was completed the following year. Together with the parallel construction of the church of St Mary on the Rock , it was to remain one of the few works in Streets in Scotland.

The stained glass windows of the choir are a work of Clayton & Bell from 1898. The tower bell was made as early as 1725 by John Easton of Fraserburgh .

description

St John's Episcopal Church is on the New Pitsligos main road ( A950 ) in the center of town. Like other works by Street, the church architecture and the late medieval Italian architectural style are based. The exposed brickwork consists of comparatively thin rows of granite blocks . The nave of the single-nave church is three axes wide. A slender tower with a pyramid roof rises up on the southwest side . The choir closes with an apse .
