description
St Kiaran's Church was designed and built by Peter McGregor Chalmers between 1897 and 1899 . At first it was after the Kilchoman Church only ancillary church of the Parish Kilchoman . In 1962 the Parish Kilchoman was merged with the Parish Portnahaven . After the last service was held at Kilchoman Church in 1977, St Kiaran's Church became the main church of the Parish, which was expanded to include the Parish Kilmeny in 2006 .
The church building was built in Anglo-Norman style from cut rubble stone. Arched windows are set into the outer walls around the building. The entrance is at the south end of the east side and is protected by a gable roof. A small bell tower sits on the slate-covered gable roof on the north side . The nave has a central aisle and ends at the raised apse . The ceiling is made of wood.
