description

St Patrick's Church was completed in 1964. The designs come from the renowned architecture firm Gillespie, Kidd & Coia , which also planned other church buildings in the Central Belt , including the Brutalist seminary at St Peter's College in Cardross and the Sacred Heart Church in Cumbernauld . The building has a rectangular floor plan and is located on a slight slope. It is made of exposed brick. The south facade is interrupted by six vertical glass elements that extend over the entire height of the building, with the distances between them varying. On the north facade, only two of these elements are installed near the building edges and connected by a flat, horizontal concrete band that describes an arched pattern that is filled with panes. On the right above the chancel there is a small, triangular window. The building closes with a flat roof . This consists of a steel construction that tapers downwards at a 45 ° angle and is clad with copper elements and sits on the red brick facade. On the south side is the entrance area with a small porch with a flat roof. This is not included in the original draft.
