State domain Neuhaus , also Neuhaus for short , is a homestead near Igersheim in the Main-Tauber district in the Franconian north-east of Baden-Württemberg . The living space is known for Neuhaus Castle , the ruins of a spur castle .

geography

Neuhaus is located at an altitude of about 329 meters above sea level on the Kitzberg, a mountain spur that protrudes into the Taubertal near Igersheim. The place is surrounded by the nature reserve "Neuhaus" .

history

The place with the castle was first mentioned in a document in 1300. Neuhaus Castle was the seat of Hohenlohe-Brauneck before that. The castle and its lordship were Würzburg fiefs in 1300 and were pledged to the Teutonic Order for the first time in 1312 and 1315 . In 1358 Gottfried von Hohenlohe-Brauneck gave the castle to Count Palatine Ruprecht as a fief. After a protracted dispute about feudal sovereignty , which was decided in 1394 in favor of Würzburg, Bishop Gerhard from the house of the Counts of Schwarzburg enfeoffed his cousins with Neuhaus castle and lordship. After several pledges, they again sold everything to the Teutonic Order in 1411. In 1431 the order obtained the bishopric's renunciation of the feudal relationship and the bishopric established an office at Neuhaus Castle from the places belonging to the lordship. During the Thirty Years War , Neuhaus Castle and Teutonic Order Office were temporarily (from 1631 to 1634) awarded to the Swedish Colonel Sperreuter. Up until the 18th century, Neuhaus Castle served as a residence for the high and German masters at times . The high jurisdiction, which originated from the Zehnt Markelsheim, was moved to Neuhaus. This made the castle a prison and in the 16./17. Century also place of execution in numerous witch trials in the area. After the destruction of Neuhaus Castle in the Peasants' War and the Schmalkaldic War, the castle was rebuilt and repaired again in 1704. However, the castle was given up from 1796 and the office was housed in Igersheim. Parts of the extensive castle complex are still preserved.

religion

In the Hohenlohe and German-Nordic times there was a castle chapel, which in 1335 was separated from the parish of Igersheim by the von Brauneck. On Kitzbergweg there is a field chapel, built in the 19th century, which contains a Pietà from the castle chapel.
