State Cup of Minas Gerais
The State Cup of Minas Gerais (port: Taça Minas Gerais ) is the football association cup of the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil . It has been organized with several interruptions by the national association of the Federação Mineira de Futebol (FMF) since 1973.
Originally set up as an independent tournament, the cup competition was included between 1979 and 1986 as the second phase of the competition for the state championship. Since then it has been organized again as an independent competition. Since 2004, his win has been linked to qualification for the national cup competition of Brazil, the Copa do Brasil . If a club has won both the championship and the cup in one season, the defeated cup finalist receives the starting place for the Copa do Brasil. In times when the cup competition is not organized, his starting place for the Copa goes to a representative from the state league.
