The Stiege Stave Church , built in 1905, is located in the Selke Valley between Stiege , Breitenstein and Güntersberge .

history

In 1897 the Albrechtshaus lung sanatorium was opened near the town of Stiege. In 1905 the wooden church was built next to the building in a horizontal block construction. The model was the stave church in Wang in the Giant Mountains. The design came from the master carpenter R. Witte from Osterwieck . The windows were made by the Ferdinand Müller stained glass factory in Quedlinburg . The church was consecrated on May 20, 1905. In addition to other dignitaries, the Prince Regent of Brunswick , Albrecht Prince of Prussia , also took part in the celebration. Tradition has it that a grateful Scandinavian patient who was cured of tuberculosis in the sanatorium was the founder of the church.

Current condition

The church is still in its original state. Only the wooden shingles were replaced with bricks. It is a listed building. The church was sealed in 2011 due to the increased occurrence of break-ins.

In December 2014 the association for the implementation and repair of the Stieger stave church was founded.

In the local monument register , the church has been listed as a monument since 2017 under registration number 094 30647 . The stave church had already been entered in the monument register once with the number 094 56036. However, it was held before 2015.
