Stacia Blake

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stacia Blake (born December 26, 1952 in Ireland ) is an Irish artist who became known in the 1970s as a dancer for the English space rock band Hawkwind .

biography

Blake joined Hawkwind in 1971. There are different stories of how the collaboration came about. According to the accompanying text to the album In Search of Space (1971), she was hired by Robert Calvert for the performances of the band. Other sources say she was friends with Nik Turner . In a 2012 interview with Mojo magazine, Turner said he met her at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival . She herself told Melody Maker magazine that she spontaneously went on stage at a Hawkwind concert to dance to the music. Lemmy Kilmister also confirms this .

Stacia Blake, who is noticeably tall (6 feet or more, that's over six feet) and had an expansive bust, often danced partially or completely naked in front of the band, mostly painted with paint. She was part of a stage show, with Andy Dunkley as MC . The artist Barney Bubbles portrayed them on the cover of the double album Space Ritual (1973), which was only realized through the commercial success of its predecessor, Silver Machine . Until 1975 she was an integral part of the Hawkwind stage show. After the tour for the album Warrior on the Edge of Time (1975), she left the band.

She married Roy Dyke , the drummer for Ashton, Gardner & Dyke . She lived with him and her daughter Aysha Dyke in Hamburg and began to paint there. Today she lives as a painter in Ireland.
