The Stade Olympique Paul-Julius-Bénard , also simply Stade Paul-Julius-Bénard , is a stadium located in Saint-Paul , a city on the French island of Réunion . With 13,000 seats for concerts or almost 8,500 seats for football matches, the Stade Paul-Julius-Bénard is the largest stadium in the city. Before the renovation in 2012, it had a capacity of 12,000 seats. It is the home of the Reunion Island Premier League club FC Saint-Pauloise . The stadium opened in 1979 and renovated in 2012.

The stadium is located north of the city of Saint-Paul, west of Parc Expobat . The Stade Paul-Julius-Bénard is in close proximity to the N1 motorway. From there there is a direct approach to the avenue du Stade, named after the destination .

history

The Stade Paul-Julius-Bénard was built in 1979 for the Indian Ocean Island Games , which took place in Saint-Denis that year . The architect of the building was Christian Toledo. The namesake Paul Julius Bénard was Mayor of Saint-Paul and Senator of Réunion.

In 2012 the stadium was renovated. Zinédine Zidane was a guest on May 25, 2012 for the inauguration of the renovated stadium . As the opening game, the French national team from 1998 competed against the football team from Réunion for charity .
