The Stade Robert-Champroux is a multi-purpose stadium in Abidjan , the former capital of the Ivory Coast . It was named after the former French boxer and later boxing promoter Robert Champroux, who established his sport in Ivory Coast since 1950. Football and rugby are played on the facility in the Marcory district, and concerts and other major events are also held in the stadium. There is space for up to 20,000 spectators. The laying of the artificial turf in 2007 was carried out because the pitch no longer met FIFA requirements for international matches due to its intensive use.
On October 11, 2008, the national teams of Ivory Coast and Madagascar met in a qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup at the Stade Robert Champroux . The Ivorians won this 3-0.
