The Sparda Bank Stadium is a football stadium in the Bavarian city of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate . It is the home ground of SpVgg SV Weiden

history

The stadium was inaugurated in 1928 and was called Stadion am Wasserwerk or simply Wasserwerkstadion until 2013 . The first game took place on July 29, 1928 between SpVgg Weiden and Admira Vienna . The match ended 3: 4 for the Viennese. The attendance record comes from 1967, when 15,000 spectators followed the game between SpVgg Weiden and SSV Jahn Regensburg (0: 3) in the old waterworks stadium.

From the middle / end of May 2009, the stadium was rebuilt for 800,000 according to the regulations of the DFB , so that nothing stood in the way of participation in the 2009/10 regional league season . Since its completion in July 2009, the stadium has a total of 7,600 seats (6,600 standing and 1,000 covered seats). 15 places for journalists have been created. In contrast to the old stadium, the grandstands of the venue were built close to the field.

Furthermore, the DFB stipulated a 2.20 m high security fence around the field. The city of Weiden assumed a large part of the costs as the owner of the facility. A further expansion of the sports facility is planned. Previously, a large part of the grandstands consisted of simple earth walls with embedded wooden steps.
