The Regensburg City Library is a municipal library of the City of Regensburg with a focus on educational, information and cultural missions. Together with the branch offices, the inventory comprises approx. 280,000 media (as of 2015).

history

Today's library was founded in 1904 by the Liberal Association of the City of Regensburg and the surrounding area as a public library . In 1919 it was attached to the advanced training school. After the Second World War, it was set up in the Alte Wache on Neupfarrplatz . Branch offices were opened in 1951 and 1954. After a few more moves in the following years, it is located at its current location, in the Thon-Dittmer-Palais , together with the German-American Institute and has been renamed the Deutsche Volksbücherei . In March 1963 Regensburg declares that it is ready to pay for the maintenance of the library in full. Therefore it was renamed the City Library . In the following years, more branch offices were gradually opened.
