The city ​​fortification of Burg (near Magdeburg) is the listed historical city ​​fortification of the city of Burg (near Magdeburg) in Saxony-Anhalt .

Design and history

Already in the 10th century there was a city ​​fortification consisting of palisades for the Burger Oberstadt . In the first half of the 13th century it was rebuilt into a stone city wall, which now also includes the lower town. The city wall was then abandoned in the 19th century. The Berliner Tor was demolished in 1806, the Schartau Gate Tower in 1811 , and the Zwinger of the Zerbster Tor followed in 1841/42 . After 1852 the city wall was largely removed.

However, several parts have been preserved that are now listed as individual monuments . Fragments have been preserved in the northern part of Bethanienstrasse and Nordstrasse. There are also several towers such as the Hexenturm , the Freedom Tower and the Berlin Tower .
