The city fortification Möckern is the partially preserved historical city fortification of the city of Möckern in Saxony-Anhalt .

Architecture and history

It goes back to the 11th and 12th centuries and has been preserved as a city wall made of field stones with a system of ditches in front, especially in the east and south of Möckern's old town, in the area of the streets Am Münzberg , Am Park , Grätzer Straße and Kirchstraße . At the southern entrance to the city by the bridge over the Ehle , the stump of the round tower of the Grätzer Tor has been preserved. The facility built from boulders is also known as the Zerbster Gate . Presumably two gates originally belonged to the city fortifications. The second gate was the Magdeburg Gate , at least in the western part of the fortification .

In the local register of monuments , the city fortification is listed as a monument under registration number 094 71083 . Immediately to the north-west is the also listed building at Grätzer Straße 22 .
