Volker Herzner
Volker Herzner (born June 28, 1940 in Leipzig ) is a German art historian .
Herzner studied in Frankfurt and Vienna . He received his doctorate in Vienna in 1969 with a study on Donatello's pulpits in San Lorenzo . With an investigation into the David and Judith iconography of the Quattrocento in Florence , the habilitation for art history followed in Karlsruhe in 1980 . He had professorships in Karlsruhe and Koblenz-Landau . His specialties are the Italian Renaissance and old Dutch painting . He lives in Karlsruhe. His book The Sistine Ceiling. Why Michelangelo was allowed to paint what he wanted he dedicated to his wife Irmlind.
