history

The house Kleine Burg 1 was acquired by the city of Braunschweig in 1830 and used as a town house ( town hall ). The house in the small castle was once the dean of the Brunswick cathedral . Previously, the city administration was housed in the Neustadtrathaus . The town house was a half-timbered building in the classical style that imitated a stone building. The facade was designed with eleven axes , in the middle there was the entrance with an outside staircase and above it a gable that extended over three axes. The building had an upper floor.

Since the town code of March 19, 1850, the town's administrative authority has been formed by the magistrate . This consisted of the chairman, two paid and four unpaid city councilors .

In 1880, considerations and planning began for the construction of a new town house. From 1894 to 1900 the Braunschweig town hall was finally built, into which the city administration moved in 1900.

On April 25, 1912, the city council approved the sale of the town house to the Duchy of Braunschweig . During the Second World War , the building was destroyed in bombing and never rebuilt. The property initially remained undeveloped, later the new building for the Braunschweig Regional Court was built on part of the area .
