Waldbröl town church
The Stadtkirche Waldbröl is a Protestant church in the North Rhine-Westphalian town of Waldbröl .
history
The first written mention of the town church Waldbröl is dated March 31, 1131. With the introduction of the Reformation by Count Sayn-Wittgenstein in 1563, Waldbröl became Protestant. As early as 1605, Waldbröl became Catholic again due to the change of regent. The Protestant community resisted, and the attempt at recatholization failed in 1610. In 1631 the next attempt was made to catholicize Waldbröl again. The congregation practiced passive resistance and secretly hired a Protestant pastor in 1646. The Catholic clergyman was compensated with 80 thalers and left the parish in the same year. The religious comparison of April 26, 1672 between the Protestant Elector of Brandenburg and the Catholic Duke of Pfalz-Neuburg brought legal recognition as an Evangelical-Lutheran community.
In 1788 the church received its first organ from the workshop of the organ builder Schöler.
In the years 1837 to 1843, after the building authorities had closed the building, the nave was rebuilt. The tower from the 12th century remained. During the construction years, the community was granted hospitality rights in the Catholic Church of St. Michael, built in 1703 . In 1909 and 1952 the church was completely renovated. The last renovation in 2002 gave the church its current appearance. The artist Bo Allison designed the five-ton concrete cross as well as the pulpit and the nimbus . New galleries and a parent-child room were also created.
The bells date from 1958 and are named after the four evangelists.
