Herbert Biehle

Herbert Johannes Richard Biehle (born February 16, 1901 in Dresden , † 1968 ) was a German musicologist .

Life

Biehle came from a middle-class Bautzen family. He was the son of the Bautzen church music director Johannes Biehle (1870–1941) and was born in 1901 in the Saxon residence city of Dresden, where his father worked for six years at the Physics Institute of the Technical University and later began his academic career.

Herbert Biehle attended grammar school in Bautzen and then the university and the master class for composition at the Academy of Arts in Berlin , where he studied piano and composition. He received his doctorate in 1924 in Berlin as Dr. phil. The subject of his dissertation was the history of music from Bautzen to the beginning of the 19th century . He then worked as a musicologist in Berlin. After the Second World War he worked as a lecturer in voice training and rhetoric.

Herbert Biele became known as the author of writings on the music history of the city of Bautzen and on Georg Schumann as well as through several works on voice studies.

Herbert Biehle lived in Berlin NW 87, Franklinstrasse 29. After the division of Berlin by the occupying powers in 1945, he lived in West Berlin .
