The Hildburghausen City Museum is a museum facility on the city history of Hildburghausen . The city museum was founded in 1904 and has been part of the "Alte Post" monument in Hildburghausen since 1993 .

Building history

The listed building is a conglomerate of different structures: It consists of the 16th century town house covered with a hipped roof , a tower of the city wall , a half-timbered arcade and various additions .

From 1809 to 1849 the building served as the Thurn und Taxis post office , hence its name "Alte Post".
