The predecessor of today's parish church of St. Wenceslas and St. Agnes was built in the second half of the 13th century in the early Gothic style and later expanded again and again. This parish church is documented for the first time in 1303. It is mentioned in a notarial act from 1354, which was issued over the papal tithe paid in previous years .

The old parish church

In the 15th century the church was expanded into a two-aisled hall church with a cross and star rib vault . A Pietà from the second quarter of the 15th century and a standing Madonna and Child from around 1500 have been preserved to this day. They can be seen in the new building of the church, as well as part of the baroque main altar. The choir was renewed between 1512 and 1517 and a presbytery was added. At the side entrance there were grave slabs of knights and rich citizens. After Hustopečes was raised to town in 1572 by Emperor Maximilian II , the church became the town parish church.

The collapse of the tower

Around 1517 the tower was raised by approx. 7 meters and covered with copper. Renovations took place in 1678, 1745 and 1816. The domed roof of the tower was replaced by a pointed roof in 1906. Of the old bells, only the median (1501, 900 kg) survived the First World War. Three new bells were financed by the town's citizens in 1926 and consecrated in the same year ( Urbanus 1560 kg, Venceslaus 419 kg and Theresia 183 kg). These three bells were melted down during World War II . In 1961 the church tower collapsed and badly damaged the church. The communist government ordered the church to be demolished in 1962, and in 1963 the remains were blown up.
