history

The Stadtsparkasse Bocholt was opened on August 5, 1841, although it is not documented why the citizens put the first 70 Taler deposits on five savings books only twelve years after it was founded in 1853. After that, however, the Sparkasse was accepted by the citizens and eight years later, in 1861, it already had a deposit of 17,120 thalers.

In 1897 the business premises at Nordstrasse 48 were rented. The Sparkasse moved into its first own building in 1901 at what was then Neuplatz (today Benölkenplatz). The introduction of check transactions in 1911 brought the Sparkasse a large number of new customers from the local middle class and a rapid increase in business transactions, so that in 1920 the main office had to be expanded. After the Second World War, these premises were no longer sufficient, and a new building was erected on Markt 5, which the Sparkasse moved into in 1954. On July 1, 1983, an extension was started on the market, which was officially handed over on October 22, 1985.

The bank code 428 500 35 shows that it was a bank location .
