The city scales at the town hall are essentially a structure from the 13th or 14th century. As early as 1310, there was an extension to what is now the town hall, which was built as a department store . Three wooden ceiling beams were probably used to hang the “council scales”. Until the early modern era, goods that came into the city by land were cleared at the town hall, goods that came by sea were cleared on the waterway. There was a staircase on the upper floor that led to the upper floor of the department store. Around 1321 the structure, which is still preserved today, was added, which extends a vaulted yoke further onto the churchyard than its predecessor. The unusual, oblique floor plan of the building was due to the then adjacent still here stalls , small buildings in a ring the churchyard of St. Nicholas Church surrounded. The large, light-flooded room on the upper floor was also unusual for buildings at that time; it probably served as a study room for the clerks of the council. This “office” was called “Kamer” or “Cämmerei-Stube” from the 18th century. In the middle of the 18th century, the chamber was redesigned after the east wall of the town hall had to be renewed. In the 20th century, the chamber was used as a technical center.

It received the baroque volute gable to the Alter Markt between 1700 and 1725. A passage designed as a Gothic pointed arch leads to the forecourt to the west portal of the Nikolaikirche.
