Wasserstraße 68 is the postal address of a listed building on Wasserstraße in Stralsund . In the Lietraur to the city of Stralsund and popularly it is called Stadtwaage , in the Dehio Handbook of German Art Monuments it is referred to as Hafenwaage .

The essentially medieval , two-storey brick building with segmental arch panels spanning over several storeys is located on the former port market. It was first mentioned in a document in 1279. It still stood in front of the Stralsund city wall , near the bathing gate , and belonged to the foremost row of buildings on the harbor; the storage buildings on today's Stralsund harbor island were not built until 1873. The building burned down in 1678. It was changed several times in the 17th and 19th centuries. It was restored in the 19th century, but since then has also had components and structural features from the time of the reconstruction. Damaged in the Second World War, it was reconstructed in 1991/1992.

The city of Stralsund used the building as a city ​​scale for the official control of weights and measures. In the vernacular and in tourism, the building in the waterway is called the town scales referred actually the city had several weighing devices. The house was temporarily home to the weighing master , who was a city official . From the beginning of the 1990s until 2017, the city children's library was located here, and events such as readings were also held here . Since 2018, the building has been a location for the city's economic development.

The building is located in the core area of ​​the city ​​area of ​​the cultural property " Historic Old Towns Stralsund and Wismar ", which was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2002 . In the official list of monuments, the building bears the number 790 (see also the list of monuments in Stralsund ). It is rated as "the last example of its kind in the Baltic Sea region ".

It is not the only medieval city ​​scale in Stralsund; the city ​​scale at the town hall has also been preserved .
