The electrical energy is fed to every household in the city of Greifswald, the municipality of Wackerow and the island of Riems via 9,300 house connections . Electricity from classic and environmentally friendly energy sources is used. There is also a filling station for electric vehicles on the premises of the Stadtwerke in Gützkower Landstrasse and at the leisure pool in Pappelallee.

gas

The gas network operator operates a 152-kilometer low-pressure network in the city of Greifswald and Grimmen. Over 6,000 house connections in Greifswald and Grimmen are supplied with natural gas . The offers of natural gas tariffs range from basic supply to ecological variants. Stadtwerke Greifswald operates two bio natural gas filling stations in Greifswald, in Daniel-Teßmann-Straße 1 and An der Jungsfernwiese 8. In addition, private households and businesses can also be supplied with liquid gas.

District heating

The network operation district heating supplies the heat for heating and hot water preparation to two thirds of all households in the university and Hanseatic city of Greifswald via a pipeline network of around 89 kilometers and over approx. 1200 house connection stations. A combined heat and power plant with a gas turbine system and waste heat boiler as well as three combined heat and power plants with internal combustion engine systems ensure the generation of district heating and electricity. The Greifswald CHP plants achieve efficiency levels of over 80%. In Greifswald, the heat generated during power generation is fed into the district heating supply as useful energy.

Water extraction

The drinking water for the citizens of Greifswald and Gützkow is obtained in the Groß Schönwalde (built 1914), Hohenmühl (built 2004) and Gützkow (built 1967 and 1994 modernized) waterworks. A total of 21 wells that are up to 50 meters deep are used for pumping drinking water near the waterworks.
