The SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern GmbH is a company that is completely the city owned Kaiserslautern is and the holding company for the supply and transport interests of the City of Kaiserslautern serves. Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern and its subsidiaries are responsible for the energy, water and heat supply as well as for city bus transport in Kaiserslautern. Various private companies are responsible for waste disposal, and they work together in the municipal facility Central Waste Disposal Kaiserslautern (ZAK). The SWK operate two natural gas filling stations:

  • on Brandenburger Strasse near the Pfaff site
  • on Mainzer Strasse

The Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern go back to the gas company founded in 1858. In 1888 the city finally acquired the rights to Lauterspring, the source of the Lauter , whereupon the systematic construction of a water supply began in 1889. On September 3, 1894, as a further project, the first urban station lighting was installed on the station forecourt . The Kaiserslautern passenger traffic finally began in 1905; Eleven years later, the Kaiserslautern tram was opened, but it only existed until 1935. From 1949 until 1985 there were also trolleybuses in Kaiserslautern. In 1952 the Deutsche Bundesbahn was supplied with steam from the Kaiserslautern thermal power station for the first time. On July 1, 2011, Gasanstalt Kaiserslautern AG merged with Technische Werke Kaiserslauternversorgung AG.

SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern supply AG

The SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern supply AG is responsible for the electricity, gas, water and heat supply of the city of Kaiserslautern. The company has its origins in TWK Technische Werke Kaiserslauternversorgung AG, founded in 1991. On November 12, 2009, the supply holding company EWP Energie Wasser Partner AG (short: EWP AG) was founded in Kaiserslautern. In June 2011, EWP Energie Wasser Partner AG was renamed SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslauternversorgung AG. On July 1, 2011, with retroactive effect from January 1, 2011, TWK Technische Werke Kaiserslauternversorgung-AG and Gasanstalt Kaiserslautern AG were merged into SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslauternversorgung-AG. The shareholders are 74.9% of the SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern GmbH and 25.1% of the Thüga AG .

SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern Verkehrs-AG

SWK Verkehrs-AG was founded in 1991 as TWK Technische Werke Kaiserslautern Verkehrs-AG . In 2011 the name was changed to SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern Verkehrs-AG . The company operates a bus network with over 500 stops in all parts of the city. Central nodes are located at the main train station and in the city center. Only low-floor buses are used in regular service. They have been recognized as “Ökoprofitbetrieb Kaiserslautern 2010” and are ISO certified. SWK Stadtwerke Kaiserslautern GmbH is the sole shareholder of the transport company.
