Since the city of Ratingen holds more than 75 percent of the company's shares, most of the profits generated remain in Ratingen itself. The municipal utilities also operate two indoor pools , one outdoor pool and one all-weather pool with a sauna landscape. In addition, customers are offered energy-saving services as well as funding programs and services relating to energy efficiency free of charge .
history
The central water supply in Ratingen has existed since 1893, and electricity supply was added in 1907. Gas was also produced in the city until 1914, but later a decision was made to purchase coke oven gas . In 1967 the purchase and sale of natural gas began and in the same year the district of Ratingen-West was supplied with district heating. In 1976 the previous company was converted into Stadtwerke Ratingen GmbH and in 1991 the company also took over the operation of the public swimming pools. Until 1996, the districts of Homberg, Hösel, Lintorf, Eggerscheidt and Schwarzbach were still supplied with electricity by RWE AG, only then did the municipal utilities take over the supply of the entire Ratinger city area.
In 2011, the municipal utilities received the political order to supply parts of Breitscheid , which had not previously been provided with broadband internet access by any commercial provider , via fiber optics. The first households were connected at the end of 2011. The offer includes fast internet, telephony and television.
Via the subsidiary KomMITT-Ratingen GmbH founded for this purpose, the offer was expanded to many other urban areas in the following years. The aim is to be able to offer consumers and companies fast fiber optic connections right into the building in all urban areas by 2021.
