The SV Stahl Unterwellenborn is a German sports club from Unterwellenborn in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district . The sports of handball, volleyball and table tennis are also practiced in the Thuringian multi-discipline club.

Club (soccer)

Stahl Unterwellenborn was founded in 1948 as ZBSG "Karl Liebknecht" Maxhütte after the SG Zollhaus and SG Könitz were incorporated . The club has acted as a company sports community of the Maxhütte in Unterwellenborn since it was founded .

In 1951 the company was renamed BSG Stahl Maxhütte . In sporting terms, the Thuringians made it into the Gera district league for the first time in 1957 , in which the championship was won in 1970. In the promotion games to the GDR league , Stahl Maxhütte failed for the time being. Two seasons later, Maxhütte managed to move up to the second top division of the GDR with a narrow lead over the second teams from Wismut Gera and FC Carl Zeiss Jena . If the league could be held in the first second division season, the Thuringians had to relegate back to the district league in 1974 together with Motor Eisenach and Chemie Schwarza .

In the following years Maxhütte played exclusively on the regional level of the Gera district and commuted several times between the district league and the district class. After the reunification, the club was renamed SV Stahl Unterwellenborn in 1990 . The successors of the former Maxhütte carrier company , ARBED and Stahlwerk Thuringia , remained loyal to the association. However, Stahl Unterwellenborn was no longer able to return to higher-class football. In 2006, the SV Stahl Unterwellenborn rose to the seventh-class state class Thuringia. From there it went down in 2015 to the current league, the district upper league of Central Thuringia .
