Stainless Games Ltd. is a British game developer based on the Isle of Wight , which specializes primarily in games for Xbox Live Arcade . Stainless was best known for the Carmageddon series.

history

The company was founded in 1993 as Stainless Software by Patrick Buckland and Neil Barnden . In 1995 Stainless signed the first contract for a full price game with SCi which was published two years later (1997) under the name Carmageddon . Due to the huge success of the debut, Stainless began developing Carmageddon II and released the game in 1998.

In 1999 the Stainless development team was integrated into the VIS entertainment group. In 2001 Stainless Games Ltd. founded as a spin-off VIS group.

After the publisher SCi hired another development studio to develop the third Carmageddon part and the game failed the critics, this also had a very negative effect on the game series and Stainless Games. In the following years, the company mainly did contract work. It wasn't until 2009 that the download title Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers achieved a new success, the title became the fastest-selling game on Xbox Live Arcade to date . In 2011 it was possible to buy back the rights to the Carmageddon series from Square Enix .

Published in 2012 Stainless Games, a reaction of Carmageddon for iOS - Mobile . Currently (2013) the company is developing the game Carmageddon: Reincarnation for next-generation consoles. In 2012, the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter raised over US $ 625,000 from supporters. In March 2013, an additional $ 3.5 million was secured from Les Edgar, former founder of Bullfrog Productions and current shareholder of Stainless Games.
