Standard Oil of Ohio or SOhio for short was an American oil company in Ohio that descended from Standard Oil and was later taken over by British Petroleum , now BP.

Like many other oil companies, it comes from the break-up of Standard Oil on charges of monopoly formation in an antitrust lawsuit in 1911 . The company operated gas stations in the state of Ohio under the brand name Sohio, in other states with the same logo but under the brand name Boron (Boron Oil Co. is a subsidiary of Sohio).

BP became the majority owner of Sohio in the 1970s in return for a stake in the Prudhoe Bay oil field in Alaska . With the complete takeover by BP in 1991 , the Sohio and Boron petrol stations were also continued under the BP brand. While there are no longer any gas stations under the Sohio name, there are still a few gas stations in the ports on Lake Erie and Ohio under the Sohio logo. With the merger of BP and Amoco , the company's headquarters were moved from the Sohio Building in Cleveland to Chicago in 1998 .
