Stanimira Petrowa ( Bulgarian Станимира Петрова ; born December 16, 1990 in Asenovgrad ) is a Bulgarian boxer . In 2014 she became the world champion of amateur boxers in the bantamweight division .

Career

Stanimira Petrowa started Taekwondo as a teenager in 1998. She practiced this sport very successfully at national and international level for 15 years. In 2012 she started studying at the National Academy of Sports in Sofia . Boxing was chosen as an elective, which is taught there in a special class. After a short training period, it became clear that she has an extraordinary talent for boxing. Her fifteen years of experience as a Taekwondo fighter and the physical fitness that she gained thereby proved to be very important. From then on, the formerly very successful boxer Alexandar Christow acts as boxing trainer .

In February 2013 she started in featherweight at the Bulgarian team championship in Ruse. With Amelia Rachewa, Nabibe Nikolajewa and Gabriela Dimitrova, she defeated three top Bulgarian boxers. In April 2014 she became Bulgarian champion in bantamweight for the first time in Sofia. She beat Amelia Rachewa (3-0) and Gabriele Dimitrova (3-0) on points.

In May 2014 she was used in Bucharest at the European Bantamweight Championship for women. There she lost her first international fight against Azize Nimani from Germany just on points (1: 2 RS), was eliminated and came in 17th place. After further intensive training, she started in September 2014 at the renowned 29th Ahmet Comert tournament in Istanbul. in the bantamweight she came to points wins over Nisa Mechtijewa, Azerbaijan (3-0) and Ayşe Taş , Turkey (3-0). In the final, she lost to Lilija Ajetbajewa from Russia just on points (1: 2 RS). In October 2014 she started at the 5th Mohamed VI Trophy in Marrakech, a boxing event that is not carried out in the knockout system. She fought there in bantamweight four times. In her first fight she lost to the multiple European champion Marzia Davide from Italy on points (0: 3), then she defeated Marine Rostand from France (3: 0) and Szabina Szücs from Hungary (3: 0) on points. In another fight she lost again to Marzia Davide (0: 2 RS). She won against Mona Mestiaen from France without a fight.

In November 2014 she was used in the bantamweight championship in Jeju / South Korea for women. There she defeated Christina Cruz from the United States (2: 1 RS), Azize Nimani (2: 1), Marine Rostand (2: 0), the ex-world champion Jelena Saweljewa , Russia (2: 1) and in the final also Marizia Davide (2-0) and became world champion straight away. A success that must be described as extraordinary because of the short time in which Stanimira Petrowa trained boxing.

At the European Games in Baku in 2015 , however, Petrowa was eliminated in the first fight against Anna Alimardanova, Azerbaijan (3-0). Things went better again at the European Olympic qualification tournament in Astana . Here she started for the first time in the flyweight (up to 51 kg) and after three victories, u. a. against Marzia Davide and Tetyana Kob , the final and thus the Olympic qualification. She then lost the final battle against Nicola Adams , England (2-0). The 2016 World Championships, however, ended for Petrowa in the first fight.

  • WM = World Championship, EM = European Championship

  • RS = judges' votes (at the end of 2013, AIBA abolished the controversial point machines, judges have been making judges again since then)
