Marzia Davide (* 1980 in Salerno ) is an Italian boxer . She was runner-up in the world championship in 2002 and 2014 and European champion of amateur boxers in 2003, 2004 and 2014 (weight class up to 54 kg and 57 kg body weight).

Career

Marzia Davide from Salerno started kickboxing and boxing as a teenager, still at a time when women's boxing was just becoming popular. She can therefore confidently be described as a pioneer of women's boxing. In 2014 it is still active and it intends to stay that way at least until the 2016 Olympics. She is married and has a seven year old son (2014). She trains in a sports center in Pontecagnano Faiano .

In 2002 Marzia Davide was the first Italian champion in the weight class up to 54 kg. By 2013, this title was followed by six more, mostly in the weight class up to 57 kg, but also two in the weight class up to 60 kg body weight.

Her international career began in 2002. She immediately achieved a great success, because she was runner-up in Antalya in the weight class up to 54 kg with a victory over Bi Ha-son, North Korea (18: 9) and a point defeat in the final against Zhang Xiyan, China (10:19) -World champion. In 2003 she became European champion for the first time in the same weight class in Pécs, Hungary, with victories over Seda Duygu Aygun, Turkey (11: 7), Ahlam Arsalane, France (18: 9) and Elena Karpachewa, Russia (17: 9). In 2004 Marzia Davide was again European champion in Riccione in the weight class up to 57 kg. To do this, she needed point wins over Olena Tereschtschuk, Ukraine (21: 6), Sonja Dürr, Germany (16: 5), Elena Karpachewa (12: 8) and Myriam Chomaz, France 818: 10).

In 2005 and 2006 she was unable to box for family reasons and the birth of her son John. Since 2007 it has been in the ring again. In July 2007 she defeated Tasheena Bugar in two international matches against Germany in Bari and Besciglia in the weight class up to 57 kg, each on points. In an international match in Perugia against Norway, she had to be taken out of the ring in the fight against Ingrid Egner because of an injury that subsequently threw her back a few months.

In July 2009 Marzia Davide reached the final at the EU championship in Pazardzhik / Bulgaria in the weight class up to 57 kg with victories over Marta Sagrado, Spain (9: 0) and Lucie Abel, England (+2: 2), in which she lost on points against Svetlana Kamenova from Bulgaria. In September 2009 she started again in the weight class up to 57 kg at the European Championships in Nikolajew / Ukraine. There she defeated Ingrid Egner on points (1-0), but lost in the semifinals against Sofja Otschigawa from Russia by breaking off in the 2nd round. She won an EM bronze medal with it.

In 2010, Marzia Davide started in the Italian championship for the first time in the weight class up to 60 kg, because women's boxing had meanwhile become Olympic, but only in the weight classes up to 51 kg, 60 kg and 75 kg body weight. In the finals of the Italian championship in 2010 and 2011, she defeated Romina Marenda safely on points. At the international championships in 2010 and 2011, she won no medals. In August 2010 she was eliminated from the EU championship in Keszthely, Hungary, in the weight class up to 60 kg in the round of 16 after a point defeat against Mira Potkonen, Finland (0: 2). At the World Championships in Bridgetown / Barbados in September 2010, she started again in the weight class up to 57 kg. There she defeated Manel Meharzi, Algeria (10: 1) and Wiktoria Gurkowitsch, Russia (9: 5) on points, but lost in the quarter-finals to Yang Yanzi from China on points (3: 7), which gives her an honorable 5th place occupied. In June 2011 she won the EU championship in Katowice in the weight class up to 60 kg over Maike Klüners, Germany, on points) 9: 8), but lost in the quarter-finals to multiple world champion Katie Taylor from Ireland clearly on points (5: 16).

After differences with the Federazione Pugilistica Italiana (Italian Amateur Boxing Association), Marzia Davide was not used at the 2011 European Championships in Rotterdam or at the World Championships in May 2012 in Qinhuangdao / China. In her place, Romina Marenda boxed in the Olympic boxing class up to 60 kg, but she was eliminated early. So the Ital. Amateur boxing association at the Olympic Games 2012 in London no starting place in the weight class up to 60 kg body weight.

Despite this disappointment, Marzia Davide continued her boxing career in 2013 after reaching an agreement with the FPI. On the way to this success she defeated Andreja Bester, Slovenia (3-0 RS), Sandra Kruk , Poland (3-0) and Ornella Wahner , Germany (2-1). • WM = World Championship, EM = European Championship, EU = European Union
  • RS = judges' votes (at the end of 2013, AIBA abolished the controversial point machines; judges are now making judges again)
