Lisa Whiteside (born September 17, 1985 ) is an English boxer . In 2014 she became vice world champion for amateurs in the weight class up to 51 kg.

Career

Lisa Whiteside is from Preston in the county of Lancashire . She started out as a teenager with kickboxing, which she practiced for four years. Only in 2009 switched to the amateur boxers. Her first club to which she belonged was the Natbridge ABC Leyland , later she moved to Larches and Savick ABC Preston . Your trainer there is Dave Fitzgerald. Lisa Whiteside is a police officer and practiced this profession as a full-time job until mid-2013. In June 2013 she was accepted into the GB boxing program (full time) and has since then only devoted herself to boxing.

Lisa Whiteside was ABAE Champion (English Champion) from 2011 to 2014 in three different weight classes (51 kg, 54 kg and 57 kg). In 2011 she was sent to the European Women's Championship in Rotterdam. She started there in the weight class up to 57 kg body weight. Her fight against Marzia Verrecchia, Italy, which she won on points, was the first fight against an international opponent that she denied. She then won over Swetlana Kamenowa, Bulgaria and Nagehan Gul, Turkey, on points. She faced the Ukrainian Natalia Birjuk in the final . She just lost this fight (14:15) on points and became vice European champion .

In May 2012, she started at the Women's World Cup in Qinhuangdao, China. She won there, again in the weight class up to 57 kg, over Nana Yoshikawa, Japan and Julia Ziplakowa, Ukraine, on points, but lost in the semi-finals to Sandra Kruk from Poland on points. She was third in the World Cup (bronze medal). At the 2012 Olympic Games in London in July / August, competitions for women were held for the first time in three weight classes (up to 51 kg, up to 60 kg and up to 75 kg). The weight class in which Lisa Whiteside started so far (up to 57 kg) was not among them. Lisa Whitesinde drew the consequences from this and decided to start in one of the three Olympic weight classes in the future and slowly trained in the weight class up to 51 kg. The fact that only the three weight classes mentioned in women's boxing will continue to be Olympic in the future (e.g. in Rio de Janeiro in 2016) brought the disadvantage for all other female boxers who do not fight in this weight class that in the year before the Olympic Games and in the Olympic year itself, the organizers of international tournaments only advertise the Olympic weight classes and therefore there are hardly any opportunities for female boxers to start in the non-Olympic weight classes in these years. This is what happened to Lisa Whiteside in 2011 and 2012.

In July 2013 Lisa Whiteside started at the championship of the European Union in the weight class up to 54 kg. She defeated Hrvojka Cudina from Croatia by technical knockout in the 3rd round, as well as Karolina Michalczuk , Poland, Delphine Mancini, France and in the final Alice Sramkowa, Czech Republic, each on points and thus won her first international championship.

In May 2014 she represented England at the European Championships in Bucharest again in the weight class up to 54 kg. She won her first fight there over Claudia Nechita from Romania on points, but lost in the round of 16 against Marzia Davide from Italy on points, which she was eliminated and came in 9th place. In November 2014 Lisa Whiteside started at the World Championships for Women in Jeju / South Korea in the Olympic weight class up to 51 kg. Although she had to work off a lot of pounds to start in this weight class, she was in great shape in Jeju, defeating Jana Burin, Belarus, Sopida Satumram, Thailand, Mandy Bujold, Canada and Terry Gordini , Italy, on points. In the final, she faced the 2012 Olympic silver medalist Marlen Esparza from the United States, to whom she narrowly lost (1: 2 judges' votes) after a great fight. She became runner-up world champion.

Her main goal is now to take part in the 2016 Olympic Games. How difficult it will be to achieve this goal is shown by the fact that Nicola Adams , the English Olympic champion from London in the weight class up to 51 kg, also has this goal.
