Ornella Wahner (born February 19, 1993 in Dresden ) is a German boxer . In 2011 she became Junior World Champion (U 19) in the weight class up to 57 kg body weight. In 2018 she became the women's world champion in the same weight class in New Delhi
Career
Ornella Wahner grew up in Dresden and began athletics there as a child . She did kickboxing and then switched to boxing . In 2006 she moved to Berlin with her parents and became a member of the Boxring Eintracht Berlin , after which she became a member of the Berlin TSC . Your trainers in Berlin were Otto Ramin and Egon Omsen. She trained in the school and competitive sports center in Berlin (Sportforum location). She later switched to the Bundeswehr as a sports soldier. She is trained by Michael Timm and Liam Joseph Bolger.
At a size of 1.64 meters, it weighs around 60 kg, but mostly starts in the weight class up to 57 kg and in the past also in the weight class up to 54 kg.
In 2010 Ornella Wahner became German youth champion in the weight class up to 60 kg and clearly beat Regina Slobodjanikowa on points in the final (7: 1). In the same year she started at the youth and junior European championships in Sangatte / France and took second place among the youth in the weight class up to 57. In the final, she lost to Charley Davison from England just on points (0: 2).
In 2011 she started at the youth and junior world championships in Antalya and with four victories she became youth world champion in the youth class (U 19) in the weight class up to 57 kg. In the final, she took revenge against Charley Davison for her defeat last year and defeated them with 16: 9 goals. In August 2011 she started at the German championship for women in the weight class up to 54 kg. She lost there in the final against Elena Walendzik ( BSK Seelze ) on points (11:13), but she was named the best fighter in this championship.
In 2012 Ornella Wahner was the first German women's champion (elite). In the final of the weight class up to 57 kg she beat Nina Meinke from SBC 26 Berlin on points. She also won this title in 2013. She defeated Samia El-Khaouat (3-0 judges 'votes) in the semifinals and Sandra Atanassow 2-1 judges' votes in the final. In July 2013 she started at the 7th Championship of the European Union in Kesztely / Hungary. In her traditional weight class, she won over Michaela Walsh, Ireland (2: 1 RS), Linnea Strandell, Sweden (2: 1 RS) and Cecilia Nilsson, Finland (3: 0 RS). In the final she was defeated by the Italian Marzia Davide by just a few points (1: 2 RS) and thus took second place.
In 2014 Ornella Wahner was again German champion in the weight class up to 52.5 kg. In the final, she defeated Pinar Yilmaz. At the 2014 World Cup in Jeju, South Korea, she lost just under points (1: 2 judges' votes) in the qualification against the Russian Sajana Sagatajewa in the weight class up to 51 kg and came in 17th place (together with all losers in this round).
In April 2015 Ornella Wahner won the International Round Robin Women Tournament in Schwerin in the weight class up to 51 kg body weight with points wins over Sandra Drabik, Poland and Jekaterina Pinigina, Russia and a draw against Pinar Yilmaz.
At the 2016 World Championships in Astana, she started in the weight class up to 54 kg. She won there over Claudia Nechita from Romania on points (3-0 RS). In the last sixteen she lost to Daria Scholarian from Kazakhstan and came in 9th place. That year she was again German champion in the weight class up to 57 kg body weight.
In 2017 Ornella Wahner competed in the 8th Championship of the European Union in Roccaporena, Cascia, Italy, in the weight class up to 57 kg. She won there over Agneta Rygielska (Poland), Derla Duffy (Ireland) and Dara Beram (Croatia) and had to admit defeat by 2: 3 judges' votes in the final against the reigning world champion Alessia Messiano from Italy. In the same weight class, she was again German champion that year. In the final, she defeated Ramona Graeff with a 5-0 judge's vote.
In March 2018 Ornella Wahner was again the winner of the International Round Robin Women Tournament in Rostock in the weight class up to 57 kg. She won there over Sandra Kruck from Poland, Nazim Ischanowa from Kazakhstan and Oana Iorga from Romania. In November 2018 she celebrated the greatest success of her career in New Delhi, India. She became world champion in the weight class up to 57 kg. On the way to this success she defeated Sandra Kruk from Poland, Vicky Glover from Scotland, Yin Junhua also China, Jemyma Betrian from the Netherlands and in the final battle Sonia Chahal from India.
