Jelena Wladimirowna Saweljewa ( Russian Елена Владимировна Савельева ; born June 16, 1984 in Tula ) is a Russian boxer . She became world champion bantamweight amateur boxers in Bridgetown / Barbados in 2010 .

Career

Jelena Saweljowa comes from Tula in Russia . She started boxing as a teenager and joined the Russian armed forces at the age of 18, where she was strongly promoted in her sport. The coaches who took her to the top were IA Oskin, ND Podjapolski and AD Duschina.

The first known result of her comes from the Russian championship in 2007. She took 5th place in the weight class up to 50 kg body weight (KG), after losing points in the quarter-finals against Ekaterina Verzhizkaya (8:18). At the Russian championship in 2008, she was able to take revenge on Yekaterina Verbizkaya in the same weight class, because she won against them, again in the quarter-finals, clearly on points (21: 7). However, they ended up in the semifinals, where they lost on points against multiple Russian champion Viktorija Ussachenko (7:17). But she came in 3rd place and won a bronze medal .

In the further course of 2008 she was able to convince the responsible coach of the Russian women's national relay, because she was used at the world championship this year in Ningbo / China in the weight class up to 50 kg KG and was completely convincing. She won in Ningbo against Aigerm Askarowa, Kazakhstan (6: 5), against Tatiana Kob from Ukraine (5: 3) and Chhoto Loura from India (3: 2) each on points and reached the final of the North Korean Kim Hyung Ok over . She lost this fight on points (2: 9) and became vice world champion.

In 2009 Jelena Jeweljewa reached the final battle at the Russian championship again, in which, however, she clearly lost on points against Viktorija Ussachenko. At the 2009 European Championships in Mykolaiv / Ukraine she was used in the weight class up to 48 kg. She defeated in Nikolajew Valeria Calabrese from Italy (10: 1) and Monika Csik from Hungary (3: 1) on points, but lost again in the final to her opponent, the Swede Jenny Hardings on points, this defeat with a tie of 2: 2 was decided in their favor only because of the slightly better auxiliary points for Hardings.

Even in 2010 Jelena Saweljewa failed to become Russian champion. This year, Alexandra Kuleschowa , who she defeated on points in the final (13: 7), built her title win. As in previous years, it was still used in the upcoming international championship, the world championship in Bridgeport / Barbados. In the bantamweight (up to 54 kg) she defeated Anna Rogovich, Ukraine (9: 3), Ayako Minowa, Japan (7: 3), Nesty Petecio, Philippines (12: 3) and the 2008 world champion in this weight class Karolina Michalczuk from Poland (14: 5) each on points. In the final battle, she faced the North Korean Kim Hye Song and was able to beat them 7: 3 on points and thus become world champion.

At the beginning of 2011 Jelena Saweljewa lost at the 42nd Flyweight Grand Prix in Ústí nad Labem against Sandra Drabik from Poland in the quarterfinals on points (0: 1) and only came in 5th place. In the Russian championship she started again in the flyweight division and defeated Alesja Manoilowa (18: 2) and Alexandra Kuleschowa (12: 9) on points. In the final, however, she lost to Olessja Gladkowa (3: 9) and only came in second. These defeats moved her to start one weight class higher again in the future, in the bantamweight division, in order to avoid constant training. That this measure was correct was shown in September 2011, when she won the tournament in this weight class at the heavily occupied Ladies Nikolayev City Cup. She defeated u. a. Ivanna Krupenina , Ukraine (+13: 13) and in the final Athina Malefaki from Greece (18: 1) on points. She was then also used at the European Bantamweight Championships in Rotterdam, where she won the title with victories over Natasa Zerajic, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Elena Walendzik , Germany, Ayse Tas, Turkey and Sandra Drabik.

In 2012, women's boxing in three weight classes (up to 51 kg, up to 60 kg and up to 75 kg body weight) was part of the Olympic program for the first time. In order to be able to start in London, Jelena Saweljewa had to train back into the weight class up to 51 kg (flyweight) and also qualify for it at the World Championships in Qinhuangdao / China in May 2012. In Qinhuangdao she won over Ping Meng-chieh, Taiwan (19: 8), Jana Juranowa, Czech Republic (35: 2) and Kim Hye-song, North Korea (11.5) on points. With these victories she reached the semifinals and qualification for the Olympic Games in London. In the semifinals she lost to Nicola Adams from England just on points (8: 9). At the Olympic Games in London, she first defeated Kim Hye-song on points (12: 9), but lost in the quarterfinals to the reigning world champion Ren Cancan from China on points (7:12) and was eliminated without a medal.

In 2013 there were no world and European championships in the women's field. At the 2014 European Championships in Bucharest, Jelena Saweljewa competed in the weight class up to 54 kg (bantam weight). She defeated there Anna Alimardanowa from Azerbaijan to points (2: 0 RS), then came to a bloodless victory over Marielle Hansen, Denmark, suggested Michaela Walsh, Ireland, on points (2: 0 RS) and lost in the semifinals against Marzia Davide from Italy on points (0: 3 RS). She won a bronze medal with it. She won the same medal at the World Championships in November in Jeju, South Korea. She started there again in bantamweight and came in her first fight to a technical knockout victory in the 3rd round over Gao Yu-min, Taiwan, to another technical knockout win in the 2nd round over rSally Mumba from Zambia and won over Dina Scholaman from Kazakhstan on points (3-0 RS). In the semifinals against Stanimira Petrowa from Bulgaria she suffered a narrow point defeat (1: 2 RS).
