Sofja Albertowna Otschigawa ( Russian Софья Альбертовна Очигава ; born July 7, 1987 in Odintsovo , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian boxer . She became world champion in 2005 and 2006 and European champion in 2005, 2007 and 2009 in the weight classes up to 52 kg, 54 kg and 57 kg body weight, respectively.

Career

Sofja Otschigawa comes from Odintsovo in Moscow Oblast . She started kickboxing as a child and became the Russian junior champion in this sport in 2001 and came in second in 2002. In 2002 she also switched to boxing and in 2003 she took second place in the Russian women's championships in the weight category up to 52 kg. In 2004 she was the first Russian champion in the weight class up to 52 kg body weight, where she was point winner in the final over Lidia Andrejewa.

In 2005, she joined the Russian Army and became a member of the Central Sports Club of the CSKA Moscow Army . There she is trained by A. Artjomow, M. Sorokin and Svetlana Gnewomanowa. In the national team, of which she is now the captain, W. Lissizyn is added as a coach. The training has recently taken place in the training center of CSKA Moscow in Krasnoarmeisk . Sofja Ochigawa is a sports student at the University of Odintsovo.

After becoming Russian champion again in 2005, she achieved her first major international successes that year. She was first European champion in the class up to 52 kg in Tønsberg / Norway with victories over Alina Nitu, Romania , Maaril Teuronen, Finland and Sumeyra Kaya from Turkey and a few months later in Podolsk also world champion in the same weight class. In doing so she won over Renate Medby, Norway, Eva Paloli, Hungary , Samiha Abou Elggehit, Egypt and Sumeyra Kaya.

After the third Russian championship in 2006, Sofja Otschigawa lost to Karolina Michalczuk from Poland on points (20:25) at the European championship this year in Warsaw in the semifinals of the weight class up to 54 kg and therefore had to be content with the European championship bronze medal . Two months later she managed to take revenge at the World Championships in New Delhi , because after winning three fights in the final of this championship, she defeated Karolina Michalczuk by a huge number of points (21: 2) and became world champion for the second time.

Sofia Ochigawa, who also became Russian champion in 2007, 2008 and 2009 (54 kg and 57 kg classes) then won the European title again in 2007 in Vejle (class up to 54 kg body weight). She defeated Karolina Michalczuk on points again in the semifinals (14: 4) and won the final against Nicola Adams from England , where the point win was relatively narrow with 9: 7 points. There were no world championships that year. At the 2008 World Championships in Ningbo / China , she convinced in the weight class up to 57 kg body weight and won points over Maria Sewtschuk, Ukraine (15: 2), a break victory in the first round over Karolina Michalczuk and a point win over Yun Kum Ju, North Korea (8: 1). In the semifinals, however, she was inhibited against the local Jian Qin and promptly lost on points (4: 6), which brought her to 3rd place.

In 2009 Sofja Otschigawa, who in addition to the successes at the international championships also achieved a number of victories in international tournaments, was again European champion in Mykolaiv (Ukraine) in the weight class up to 57 kg body weight ( featherweight ). What was impressive was the way in which she achieved this success. She beat Alexandra Paczka from Poland on points (20: 1), won against Lucy Abel from England on points (9: 0), was the demolition winner in the second round over Marzia Davide from Italy and defeated Julija Zyplakowa from Ukraine in the final Points (14: 0). In these four fights she only gave up two points.

In 2010 she switched to the lightweight . This weight class is one of the three weight classes that will be Olympic for women in London in 2012 . Sofia Ochigawa immediately got along well in this weight class. She became Russian champion with a high point win in the final over Anastasia Schischmarewa (18: 0), after she had also outclassed Alina Abbasowo (27: 1) and Darija Borischkina (22: 0).
