Stanisław Noakowski (born March 21, 1867 in Nieszawa , † October 1, 1928 in Warsaw ) was a Polish architect, watercolor painter and art historian.

biography

After attending the secondary school in Włocławek and the grammar school in Łowicz , he studied architecture at the Art Academy in Saint Petersburg (1886–1894).

After graduating, Noakowski applied for the position of a lecturer at the Technical University in Warsaw, but his application was rejected. Then he decided to stay in Russia . From 1899–1905 he taught at the Stroganov School of Applied Art in Moscow , and in 1906 he was appointed professor at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. In 1915 he became a member of the Petersburg Art Academy. After the October Revolution he became a member of the College of Performing Arts of the People's Commissariat for Popular Education. In total he spent twenty years in Russia.

In 1919 he was appointed professor of the history of modern architecture at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology, and for three years he held the office of dean.

Noakowski was best known as a watercolor painter. He painted fantastic architectures from Poland and Russia with broad brushstrokes. During the lectures he drew pictures on the blackboard with chalk, only a few of which remained. In 1920 a collection of his watercolors appeared in book form.
