Stanislav Assjejew

Stanislav Volodomyrowytsch Assjejew ( Ukrainian Станіслав Володимирович Асєєв , born October 1, 1989 in Donetsk , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a Ukrainian writer and journalist. During the war in Ukraine he stayed in his hometown Donetsk and published reports for the Ukrainian media between 2015 and 2017. From June 2, 2017, Assjejew could no longer be found until the self-proclaimed "Ministry for State Security of the Donetsk People's Republic " confirmed on July 16, 2017 that he was in her captivity. Assyeev was released on December 29, 2019.

biography

Assjejew studied at the Institute of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence of the National Technical University of Donetsk . He completed his studies in 2012 with a master's degree in religious studies. After completing his studies, he went to Paris , where he wanted to join the Légion étrangère .

Assjejew published under the pseudonym Stanislaw Wasin for Ukrainian media and the Ukrainian-language section of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty . On June 2, 2017, he initially disappeared without a trace and the authorities of the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People's Republic” initially denied knowing anything about Assjejew's whereabouts. It was not until July 16 that the self-proclaimed "Ministry of State Security" confirmed Asjeev's family that he had been arrested for "espionage".

In July 2018, Assyeev went on hunger strike .

Amnesty International , the Committee for the Protection of Journalists , Human Rights Watch , the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and Reporters Without Borders called for Assyeev's immediate release.

On December 29, 2019, Assyeev was released in connection with a prisoner exchange between Ukraine and the pro-Russian People's Republics.

Assjejew has published books in various genres since 2011, including an autobiography in the form of a novel. His 2018 collection of essays in various Ukrainian media, In der Isolation , will be published in German at the end of 2020 in Berlin.
