The Starr Lake is a small meltwater on the Antarctic Ross Island . It is halfway between First Crater and Crater Hill on the Hut Point Peninsula .
The lake got its name in the 1970s. It is named after the steelworker James W. Starr of the United States Navy , who developed the lake as a freshwater source for the McMurdo station, 800 m to the north .
