Stars Records
Stars Records , also Stars, Inc. , was an American record label from Atlanta , Georgia .
history
Stars was founded in 1955 by Bill Lowery . Together with the country musician Boots Woodall , Lowery led the publishing company Lowery Music Company since 1951 and tried to get into the record business from the income from the business. He also founded two labels, Fox Records and Stars Records. They were small companies that released singles by local, unknown musicians and only produced them for the local market. The music was recorded in the studio of the radio station WGST, where Lowery had worked in the early 1950s. The label had no seat; Mail went to PO Box 1027 in Atlanta.
Stars' first known release was Cleve Warnock's My Baby Is Gone / You're the Only One That'll Ever Do (Stars 502), a rockabilly single from 1955. The first two numbers 500 and 501 are unknown. Stars had the plates pressed by RCA Victor , who offered a custom service. The label never had a national hit, but some potential hits were released nationally by Columbia Records ( Billy Brown's single Did We Have a Party / It's Love ) and RCA Victor himself ( Ric Cartey's single Oooh-Eee / Young Love ).
Stars' last records came out in late 1957. Lowery then closed the company and started a new label in 1958 with NRC Records .
