Stas Misseschnikow ( Hebrew סְטַס מִיסֶזְ'נִיקוֹב; Russian Стас Мисежников ; born February 28, 1969 in Moscow ) is an Israeli politician who was Minister of Tourism from March 31, 2009 to February 5, 2013 as a deputy of Yisra'el bejtejnu .

Life

On September 7, 1982, he immigrated to Israel . In 1992 he earned a BA in Social and Political Science from Tel Aviv University . Eight years later he earned an MA in Business Administration and Marketing from the same university. From 1997 to 1999 he was a parliamentary assistant in the Knesset, and from 1999 to 2006 he was employed in the management of the Israeli health insurance company Klalit . From 2003 to 2006 he was a councilor in Rishon LeZion . For the 2006 election he was sixth on the electoral list of Jisra'el bejtejnu ; when the party won 11 seats, he became a member of the Knesset. He was re-elected in the 2009 elections, ranking third on the electoral list. He was then appointed Minister of Tourism.

The Israeli embassy in Madrid described his visit to Spain as unprofessional. Misseschnikov allegedly canceled a diplomatic working lunch at the embassy for a private party. He pretended to have attended a Holocaust memorial service.

In October 2010, he said that the OECD had recognized the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. A meeting of the OECD had previously taken place in Jerusalem. He was then accused of abusing the OECD for his political views. He was then described as a "diplomatic neophyte ".

After the attack at Burgas Airport in 2012, Misseschnikov traveled to Bulgaria to maintain tourism links with Israel. He met with Boyko Borissow and Rossen Plevneliev .

According to a report on Channel 2 in Israel, bodyguards reported on the minister's private life. So he went out regularly to get drunk and to go to strip clubs . His night life was to blame for the fact that he was unable to attend a crisis meeting that was organized at short notice regarding the release of Gilad Shalit . Misseschnikow had denied the allegations. Accordingly, he took part in a committee of inquiry that was supposed to clarify irregularities in the public service.

He was detained in Hermon Prison in Galilee from December 17, 2017 to September 9, 2018. He had received a 15-month prison sentence for a breach of duty because in 2010, as Minister of Tourism, he promoted a festival in Eilat and at the same time recommended his girlfriend as the organizer. In the October 2017 trial, he confessed that there was a conflict of interest.
