The Katjes International GmbH & Co. KG with headquarters in Emmerich am Rhein belongs as its sister company Katjes Fassin GmbH + Co. KG ( "Katjes Germany") and Katjesgreenfood GmbH & Co. KG Katjes group. The company concentrates on holdings that are active in the Western European sugar confectionery market.

Katjes International is the holding company of the Katjes Group. As a strategic investor, the company pursues a long-term “ buy and hold ” approach. Accordingly, the holdings will remain legally and organizationally independent after the takeover and a local management will remain in office.

history

Katjes International bundles the holdings of the Katjes Group in Western Europe. Since 2010 Katjes International has taken over 50% of the shares in the Dutch company Festivaldi, which manufactures the best-selling licorice product in terms of volume in the Netherlands ("Harlekijntjes"). In 2011 Katjes International took over the sugar confectionery producer Lutti. In the sugar confectionery market, Lutti is market leader in Belgium and second in France . At the beginning of 2012, Katjes International acquired the Belgian distribution company Continental Sweets Belgium NV. In the same year, the company Dallmann & Co. was acquired by Katjes International and has since supplemented the product portfolio in the field of cough drops.

With the acquisition of Piasten at the end of September 2014, Katjes International took over the largest manufacturer of coated tablets and chocolate lentils in Germany. The product portfolio includes a. the brands "Big Ben" and "Treets". In the past financial year, Piasten achieved net sales of 91.6 million euros (as of June 30, 2014). In January 2016 Katjes increased the stake in the Dutch Festivaldi to 100%. On June 9, 2017, Katjes International announced that the company had acquired Josef Manner & Comp. AG has participated. On September 5, 2017, the takeover of Sperlari Srl 1836, founded by Enea Sperlari, is now the second largest in the Italian sugar confectionery market and the market leader in the segment for candies, liquorice, sweeteners and seasonal products.

At the end of August 2018, Katjes International began negotiations with the CPK Group ( Carambar & Co. SAS) based in Issy-les-Moulineaux , which was founded by the holding company Eurazeo , on a merger of the French confectionery activities. The merger was completed at the end of 2018.

In December 2018 it was announced that the stake of almost 11% in the Halloren chocolate factory was sold to Charlie Investors.

After Katjes International acquired 25% of the British Candy Kittens Limited in August 2019, the stake was increased to more than 50% in November 2019. The company was founded by Jamie Laing , known from the British TV series "Made in Chelsea", and offers vegetarian and gluten-free candies without artificial flavors or colors.

Companies

The company is 90 percent owned by Bastian Fassin and 10 percent by Tobias Bachmüller . Both are managing partners. Xaver Fassin International GmbH is the shareholder of Katjes International GmbH & Co. KG with unlimited liability.

When the company changed its name to Katjes International, a new logo was introduced in 2011. The current company logo was introduced in 2016.

financing

In July 2011, Katjes International issued a corporate bond with a volume of 30 million euros to finance further acquisitions and a growth strategy. The bond had a term of five years and a fixed interest rate of 7.125% per year. In March 2012, the corporate bond was increased by a further 50% to a total of 45 million euros.

In May 2015, Katjes International issued a new corporate bond with a volume of EUR 60 million and an annual interest rate of 5.5 percent and placed it in full. The 2011/2016 bond was prematurely terminated and repaid on July 20, 2015.

On May 16, 2017, the bond was increased by 35 million euros.

In April 2019, Katjes International issued a third bond and placed it in full. It comprises an issue volume of 110 million euros at an annual interest rate of 4.25 percent and has a term of five years.

Brands

Katjes International and its affiliated companies own brands in various countries in Western Europe:

  • Piasts (Germany): "Treets", "Chocolate Lentils", sugar-coated peanuts "Big Ben" and the like. v. m.
  • Lutti (France and Belgium): "Surf Fizz", "Arlequin", "Bubblizz", "Scoubidou", "Koala" etc. v. m.
  • Dallmann’s (Germany): throat and cough drops (sage, Icelandic moss, thyme)
  • Harlekijntjes (Netherlands): Licorice products from the “Harlekijntjes” brand are the best-selling licorice products in the Netherlands by volume.
  • Sperlari (Italy): The best-known brands include Sperlari (fruit gums, sweets, Italian nougat "Torrone"), Saila (liquorice), Dietorelle (sugar-free products) and Dietor (sweetener).
  • CPK (France): The best-known brands are " Carambar ", "La Pie Qui Chante" and "Krema" as well as the British chocolate brand "Terry's".
  • Candy Kittens (Great Britain): "Candy Kittens Gourmet Sweets" in different flavors.

Sponsorship

From 2014 to the end of 2016, the company was a sponsor of the Formula 1 racing driver Nico Hülkenberg . Hülkenberg was already an advertising medium for the Katjes Group in 2010.
