history

The church of Laßnitzhöhe-Autal was built in 1933 and consecrated to the patronage of the Holy Cross in the following year . It is the only church from the interwar period in Eastern Styria and was called Dollfuss Church at the time . It was originally a branch church of the Graz-St. Peter ( Deanery Graz-Süd ) and was set up as a station chaplain in 1946 .

Building description

The church and the parish building were combined to form a single structure based on a design by the architect Fritz Prangl. The external appearance of the Autal Church is simple, formally strict and classically modern . A rectangular tower serves as a distinctive feature. The three-storey rectory was not attached until 1936/37. In the interior there are wall paintings with depictions of the Passion by Fritz Silberbauer . Hans Mauracher designed a larger than life crucifix on the high altar, the sculptures on the side altars and the carved pulpit. Both are founding members of the Graz Secession .
Both the church and the parish building are under monument protection .

There is a forest cemetery behind the Autal parish church.
